This was for those who needed help processing the murder of 15-year-old Khyler Edman.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said the teen was stabbed to death while protecting his 5-year-old sister from a burglar Thursday night.
The 10th-grade student was enrolled in some honor classes and was a former ROTC member at Charlotte High School, according to the district.
To show their support, the high school started the day with a moment of silence.
Students also planned to wear the color blue to honor their classmate.
The Student Government Association is planning to celebrate Khyler’s life at their next home football Friday night.
The suspect in this case, according to deputies, is 27-year-old Ryan Cole.
He’s been arrested for burglary of an occupied dwelling and theft.
The sheriff’s office said that they’re working with the State Attorney’s Office closely to get justice for Khyler.
His family and friends will be hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Harbor Heights Park. All of the proceeds will go towards Khyler’s mother, which will help with funeral expenses.
